Welcome back to the Spring term 2022!

I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year break and that the Omicron variant did not disturb your plans too much.

This term we have three blocks fixtures against Warwick, St Benedict’s and Campion before half term. After half term, each year group gets to experience the faster-paced side of the game with 7, 9 and 10 a-side tournaments, including the prestigious National 7s at Rosslyn Park for U14s and U16s and the Sedburgh 10s for the U18s.

On the social and fundraising side, this term we host our Burns Night on 29 January in the Queen’s Hall (flyer below). If you would like to come along, please email sarah.kucera@btinternet.com asap.

Later this term on 31 March are the FRoRGS Junior Awards for Y7-9 which celebrate the achievements of the younger year groups. Note the date change from 3 to 31 march for those who had already saved the date.

Next term we have our golf day on 20 May at Harleyford GC and our final event of the year is the Touch Rugby & Beer Festival with a provisional date of 25 June 2022. Please put the dates in the diary.

We now have a date for our largest fundraiser, the Sportsman’s Dinner, 6 October 2022. Please put the date in the diary and get your tables together as this event always sells out. Tables will be released in the first week of May.

Below, we have a couple of photographs celebrating the successes of last term. And, if you wonder why Friends of Rugby does what it does, please take 30 seconds to watch the video at the bottom ….!

All the best

Dear Parent

I hope you all had a lovely break over the Christmas period and welcome you back to RGSHW Rugby for the final fixtures of the season.

Autumn Term finally saw the return of competitive rugby at RGS and it was fantastic to see so many pupils back out on the fields playing external fixtures. The opening games saw our U12 & U13 squads representing RGS at for the first time. A highlight being our U12 fixture vs RBCS, where we put out 7 teams, with over 90 pupils involved in the fixture and a significant number of those pupils playing competitive rugby for the first time.

RGS also had some success in the older age groups, with our 1st XV lifting silverware at St. Joseph’s Festival for the first time since 2011 and our U15 group narrowly beating Harrow School in a hotly contested NatWest Cup fixture. The U15 squad are scheduled to play Wellington College in Round 5 at home on Thursday 20th January.

As we move into the Spring Term, we take on Warwick, St. Benedict’s and Campion School in the final block fixtures of the season before moving into 7’s and 10’s after the February half term. I look forward to seeing you all back on the touchline supporting the pupils.
