Of our 1430 pupils on roll, all pupils play rugby as part of their sports curriculum with some 420-450 being selected for team squads per year. Our senior players are regularly selected to play for professional sides and we pride ourselves on our youth development from 11-18 in being able to produce sportsmen whom professional and national teams look for. Our 1STXV 2017-18 contained 9 Premiership Academy players.
Years 9-13
We are delighted to be able to open the RGSHW Gym for the 2020/21 school calendar year. Over the summer, we have developed areas of the Gym floor and added equipment, so there is an improved space for the pupils to work in as well as integrating numerous types of training.
The membership is further enhanced by the new TeamBuildr App which allows all members to remotely access their goals, track progress, know their strength thresholds and interact with teammates. videos and leaderboard, as well as allowing better coach- athlete feedback.
The Gym membership is again set at £90, with full boarders able to have a membership at a discounted price of £60. It will be available to purchase via ParentPay or Direct Debit. All monies from Gym memberships will be reinvested for its future development.
If you have been invited to a scheduled Gym session for your core sport – cricket, hockey, rowing or rugby – then you are not required to purchase a Gym membership. If you wish to use the Gym anytime outside those scheduled sessions, you will be required to purchase a Gym membership.
All pupils in Years 9-13 have the opportunity to purchase a Gym membership. If you feel that the cost is prohibitive, please feel free to contact me in the strictest confidence, as there may be funding available.
As parents, we welcome you at our games, supporting the players through their 7-year RGS rugby journey. Fixtures usually take place on a Saturday morning, running as many as 6 teams, so that wherever possible we can try and give every pupil the chance to experience the match day with their friends and team mates.
I am looking forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks at our Saturday training sessions. The training is optional and open to any pupil who wishes to attend.
For everyone on and off the pitch, as well as watching the spectacle from the stands and on live streams, it will be an unforgettable memory.
